Four: We met the coolest folks residing within the USA.
I had to get that off my chest because I never want to forget any of them. It started at Mammoth Cave National Park. This wonderful guy with his daughter and his mother were rediscovering the caves after a family reunion and pretty much adopted us. He explained so many cool things about the caves and the area where we were in Kentucky. Oh yeah and they are literally FROM South Park, Colorado. The daughter explained how she goes to South Park High School and how it has one single hallway and how cool it is to go hiking at like eleven thousand feet andohmygodhowcolditgetsanditsnowsevenwhenitslikeaugust.
The worst driving experience thus far was leaving Mammoth Caves heading to St. Louis, MO. It poured rain and the road was not a highway. Not fun and no White Castles or Steak 'n' Shakes to make it any better.
Luckily the rain stopped and the sun came out and St. Louis awaited in all it's sunsetting glory. I had no idea how close Busch Stadium and the Arch were to each other. They are very close indeed and I got to visit both at a wonderful time of day when it was not too hot nor too busy. I didn't want to visit the Arch itself because I felt satisfied with just seeing it. Zwei and Drei wanted to actually go to it so we did. I am glad we did. It's very impressive in person and looks great in the waning hours of sunlight. The tickets for going up inside were sold out but we walked all around the waterfront and Zwei and Drei ended up taking a short helicopter trip to get a better view of things.
We even saw an old Route 66 diner on our way back to the main highway, which got us excited for Monday.
We stayed at Motel 6, just west of St. Louis. I personally was grossed out by it but the lady working there was super, super pleasant and they had very good free coffee in the lobby. We had no internet so I am sad that my true emotions about the day are not recorded for my future reference. At least I have a lot of pictures!
