Thursday night. Pre-trippin'

Four: I have learned that our traveling companions (Zwei & Drei) will arrive tomorrow evening around 5:45pm via MegaBus from NYC. This suits me fine as we have a lot to finish tonight and it's also nice to get a little more "me" time before a ten day car ride.

The father of the guinea pig will be watching the other pets and so he stopped by to wish us well and to find out where we keep our spare toilet paper.

I have also made a list of things to complete tomorrow before the others arrive. This is a much better planned trip than I am used to. One has to pack smarter when one travels in a car for ten days but then takes an airplane in return.

Bringing drinks and food is imperative so I did something borderline unthinkable - I purchased a styrofoam cooler for $3 with the intentions of tossing it in the trash (in super enviro CALIFORNIA no less). Hey, a girl has to have ice cold beverages in the desert if she wants to survive! Also, I made one dozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and froze them so they won't get smushed as we drearily pack the cooler very early Saturday morning. Hopefully tomorrow Eins will chop some veggies and make a variety of snack-sized treats to go along. I wonder if California has figured out a way to turn used styrofoam coolers into fuel for the Prius?

We have been talking about the trip for a while but only now is it really starting to sink in: A) I am about to spend a lot of time in a small space. B) Mother nature does not care if you are on vacation. She will visit you every month regardless. C) I did not save enough "fun" money.
